  • Issue#59220: Notebook - Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 DA200 observations

just wanted to let you guys know that the above mentioned adapter works fine as a "mini docking station", allowing to connect two screens via HDMI (though it won't give you 4K, I guess). I connected LAN, HDMI, an USB Hub with keyboard, mouse and a headset without issues. The only thing that needed to be done was to update the thunderbolt firmware on my notebook (using a Precision 5510, which is basically just a XPS with different graphics adapter). Before the update, the screen was... Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 DA200 observations

  • Issue#441904: Notebook - DELL XPS 15(9550) and download problems to USB 3.0 external hard drives

I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this problem with the 9550. My specs are 512GB PCIe drive, 32GB RAM (Crucial Upgrade) and the standard GTX Video Card. Whenever I try to download large 4K video files (say over 4 -6 GB each from the system drive or an external XQD card) to a USB 3.0 external drive the download starts off ok and after a few seconds the speed of the download goes to 0 and the drive hangs and eventually dismounts. Apologies for digging up this ancient post, but I seem to have a similar issue with my XPS 8700 - at startup USB devices are powered, but once I reach the OS login screen they have no power anymore, hence no way to log in. It happens with all USB ports on Linux and Windows 10.

Hey everyone, I have the XPS 15 9550. I enabled wake-on usb in the BIOS (flashed the latest one). When I tried to waken up the laptop with my keyboard, the laptop froze and I only saw rainbow-like pixels. I called Dell support and they swapped the motherboard. With the new motherboard, I re-enabled wake-on usb. Again, when waking up, the laptop froze and crashed. Upon restart, I noticed that I cannot see the Dell boot logo anymore. • Issue#1029402: Ubuntu - Dell XPS 13 9350 USB-C HDMI: no signal

I have just received a brand new Dell XPS 13. It came preinstalled with Windows, but I switched to AHCI mode and installed Ubuntu 16.04 on it. After some issues with the Broadcom wifi drivers, I could finally start using the machine for work. Now I am attempting to attach an external monitor (Dell 24") to the USB-C TB3 connector, and having nothing but trouble. I started by purchasing a noname USB-C to HDMI adapter, this one: When entering the Displays manager in Ubuntu, I cannot see the monitor at all. Hotplugging and rebooting with the monitor connected makes no difference. I did a firmware upgrade to 1.4.4 with no effect. I upgraded to latest mainline kernel 4.6.5 with no effect. I have disabled Secure Boot and Thunderbolt user security in BIOS. I have tried with a different external monitor. Nothing has so far made any difference at all. I see nothing in dmesg or lspci that seems to identify any action or change I make with this adapter and monitor. I have spent a few

  • Issue#305158: [UbuntuGnome] Dell XPS-15 9550 HDMI causes system hang

I have the 4K UHD screen version and am running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 Beta1 using 4.4.0-13-generic and the Nouveau drivers. If I plug in an external HDMI monitor (FHD) either into the HDMI port, or into the USB3.1-connected adaptor box that provides HDMI (and ethernet etc.) then the whole system hangs, completely unresponsive and needing a hard reboot. Before hanging the 2nd display gets an image as expected, but the laptop's screen flashes randomly, sometimes you see weird artifacts. Then the hang comes. I've also tried to get the nvidia drivers (340 and 361, 'tested' and 'updates') working, but failed. When the Nvidia drivers are installed the display manager doesn't come up and the console screen flashes randomly and won't reliably accept keyboard input. You can SSH in to cleanly shutdown if you're lucky. I'd really like to get the HDMI working, and ideally I'd like to get the nvidia drivers working too so I can use OpenCL. It seems like such a serious quick death.
